Don’t Put Too Many Eggs in One Basket
The proverb “don’t put all your eggs in one basket” dates back to the 17th century. A farmer would go to the market with baskets of eggs, making sure not to put too many together. If one basket fell, all the eggs would not break.
Today, we say it not to rely too heavily on one thing. In addition to the farmer’s strategy of distributing eggs among different baskets, investors diversify their portfolios.
We are so blessed because we have options and choices. Imagine being at a breakfast buffet. There are dozens of different types of egg dishes to choose from—Huevos Rancheros, Benedict, boiled, scrambled, fried, and many types of omelettes.
When we only ever eat scrambled eggs, we’ll never know how delicious a perfectly poached egg can be. Similarly, if we only ever focus on the problems in our life, we never become aware of the opportunities and experiences that are available to us.
Imagine there is a blank canvass in front of you. Would you color with one color or would you choose a variety? There is no right or wrong answer here. All there is knowing what you find is healthy for you. And what captivates you.
We can choose to stay in our comfort zone or realize that often being safe is very risky.
Life is an adventure, and by putting all our eggs in one basket, we may believe we are safe. But are we open to possibilities and understanding that we don’t have to limit ourselves. We can experiment and also find different ways to protect ourselves.
Diversifying Eggs
We are in the business of creating meaning in our lives. When we challenge ourselves to have experiences like exploring new dishes, or breaking free from our limiting beliefs, our lives will become truly ours. Growth comes from having the courage and curiosity to learn what’s for us and what isn’t for us.
Spring is here and it’s time to sweep away the cobwebs of stagnation and break out of the ruts that have kept us stuck. The universe is constantly evolving, and so must we. Trust in the natural process of growth and change. When we don’t take the initiative to make necessary changes, the universe will eventually do it for us.
What if life is like a treasure chest? The more keys we have, the more treasures we can unlock, and the more adventures we’ll have along the way. And if we haven’t invested everything in one basket, we have opened ourselves to opportunities.
We are always provided for, and the universe will support us in our journey towards growth and transformation. And at the beginning of every day, it’s all a matter of trust. Let’s not allow any fear hold us back from stepping out of our comfort zone and exploring the unknown.
Things are shaking out big time right now. Do we observe, comment or move into creation? Human history, and our own, repeats until we break the cycles. Is this an opportunity to be mindful of our eggs? And understand, we have the power to be discerning about who we trust.
