A Design Pathway of Earth Regenerators
Joe Brewer is not only a visionary but a pioneer of our new world, which is emerging right now, outside the mainstream news. He is the Founder of Earth Regenerators, a global network of people from all walks of life with the intention of weaving relationships that restore planetary health at scale.
Awakened to the threat of human-induced climate disruption, while pursuing a doctorate in atmospheric science, Joe switched fields and worked with scholars in the behavioral and cognitive sciences with the hope of helping create large-scale behavior change at the level of global civilization.
It Takes Guts to Step Out and Create
Today, Joe believes there truly is a pathway being taken by Earth Regenerators. The path is not found in the shallow optimism of techno-fixes or consumer choices. Nothing short of a spiritual revival of indigenous ways of life will do, and remembering that we are part of Nature. Combined with the best scientific knowledge about human behavior, cultural evolution, and the dynamic Earth; he is showing us that a path can be made by walking it throughout the rest of this century and beyond.
The vision is to help thousands (and later millions) of people to make the transition from living in extractive economies to empowered livelihoods contributing to the healing of landscapes, ecosystems, and human communities — all over the planet. The community is hosting learning journeys, providing a variety of social supports, and even have a regenerative project incubator.
Tales from the Earth Regenerator Trek
Joe has created a prototype for bioregional regeneration in the northern mountains of Colombia and he recently shared this update, which I find so inspiring so I thought I’d share it with you.
“With care and intention, I painted this sign.
It says, “La Nieta Ceiba” which translates as “The Granddaughter Ceiba” — and will be lovingly placed at the base of the Ceiba Barrigona Tree that we rescued and transplanted a little more than a month ago.
This signifies two important things. First, that I dream of [my daughter] Elise’s children and all other grandchildren playing under this tree that is at risk of extinction. It has been placed in protection in the bioparque where it may survive to grow large and live a long life.
The second is that I don’t want this tree to go extinct. I want her to have grandchildren of her own. So I gave her this name as a blessing to all of her relatives living in Chicamocha Canyon. They don’t exist anywhere else on Earth.
It’s such a simple act to paint a sign. Yet, within it, is a dream that is powerful and bold. Humans as regenerators of the Earth. Humans as guardians and stewards of non-human life. Humans as lovers of landscapes who give themselves in service to ecosystems.
I aspire to be such a human. And it heals me.
Onward, fellow humans. “
So much is possible when we realize how powerful we are and create what we need in the world–from a healthy life to regenerating the earth. Joe is one of the leaders of the new world who is walking his talk and showing us there’s another way forward, which is actually very ancient. He has a new book that dives deep into where we’re headed.
What if everything is already here to be discovered?
