Sustainable Fashion is Here
In years to come, you will see much from visionary, conscious leaders like Shamini Dhana, Founder and CEO of Dhana Inc. and D/Sphere, who is deeply transforming our relationship with fashion in sustainable ways. Shamini is one of the 180 million people on the planet creating the emerging world and introducing healthy ways of living. In her case, she is bringing us a fashion technology platform where we can create fashion using second-life materials while driving social and environmental impact.
Shamini brings to the fashion world over twenty years of experience in international strategy, global operations, venture capital, and executive leadership in corporate America. As a consultant, government foreign direct investment specialist, and banker, Shamini gained extensive experience in leading global business missions.
But her true passion and purpose were expressed when she launched her own company, Dhana Inc., which empowers youth to connect to people and the planet through the medium of fashion. Shamini shares,
“We always and still believe that our youth are our global ambassadors of tomorrow and should have the opportunity and right to speak their truth and impact the way business is done.”
What Do We Value?
In her article What You Value, You Protect, she shares:
“This time has given us a period of respite to examine what truly matters to us—family, friends, community, health, exercise, the environment, nutrition, culture, clothing, technology, and travel. Understanding why it matters and how to value it is as important. For we protect, invest in, serve, direct our energy toward and spend valuable resources on what we value.
Memories are a special gift in life—they represent a connection to the present moment, which is an expression of our being, our connectedness to all life. If memories are to be treasured, then moments are to be lived. How we treasure our memories can be demonstrated in many ways. Every day we place a piece of garment on ourselves that has the power to connect to people and planet.
Today, we have the ability to wear our values through fashion. This is what Dhana stands for—an offering to connect to people and planet through the medium of fashion. With Dhana’s Circular Fashion Collection, I invite you to reconsider your clothing as something representing memories and values waiting to be celebrated and shared with the world.”

Shifting Our Relationship with Fashion
We all have fashion stories as every day, we make memories while engaging with a person, celebrating a milestone event, or even visiting a place. Most of us have that one piece of clothing in our wardrobe that we have a deep emotional connection to and cannot throw away – just think about it and ask why?
Is it time to change the dynamics of the fashion world where we will see clothing appreciate in value and price through time via customization and personalization? When we create new clothing using old clothing, we significantly begin to reduce global textile waste. D/Sphere is on circularity principles, which drive impact and connect customers to garment workers, and thereby promoting social impact.
Shamini reminds us not to forget the human right to a living wage, the unheard worker, and the dignity of the people who make our clothes. She encourages us, to choose to stand up, speak out and take action on behalf of garment workers. Here are three ways for you to educate, inform and raise awareness of the plight of our garment workers:
Fashionscapes is documentary series exploring fashion’s supply chain.
Remake is a community of fashion lovers, women’s rights advocates, and environmentalists on a mission to change the industry’s harmful practices on people and our planet. We make sustainability accessible and inclusive across our three pillars of work: education, advocacy, and transparency.
Fashion Revolution is a global movement of people who make the fashion industry work, including the people who wear clothes and the people who make them.
