Is Chaos A Misunderstood Puzzle of Life?

Is Chaos the Misunderstood Puzzle of Life? - Radical Trekking - Ayelet Baron

Is chaos the misunderstood puzzle of life? Alexander Pope reminds us that “all chaos is order misunderstood.” And Henry Adams adds, “Chaos was the law of nature; Order was the dream of man.”

Many of us think chaos is like a messy room—challenging and scary. This fear pushes us to create make-believe stories to hide from the truth. It’s like creating a fairy tale or a fantasy to avoid facing the scary parts.

When we try to bring order to chaos, we often make things more confusing and complex. This extra confusion stops us from dealing with our fears. But isn’t it interesting that when our mind is calm, we need fewer made-up stories.

The world around us also affects how we see chaos as a misunderstood puzzle. When we see fights and problems, like people arguing in a boardroom, we think chaos is harmful. We often blame chaos as being the bad guy in the room

But from what I’ve learned, we fear chaos because it stops us from seeing how everything is connected. It’s like not knowing how puzzle pieces fit together to create a beautiful image. Until we learn more about ourselves, we continue to fear or fight chaos.

The fights and chaos we see are just signs we have more to learn about connecting with our inner state of peace and calm. No longer judging ourselves harshly or putting ourselves in the penalty box.

While chaos may seem like a messy room, it’s a big part of our life and growth. Our fear comes from misunderstanding, like a kid being afraid of the dark. This fear drives us to construct layers of made-up realities, akin to a story spun to calm a frightened child, rather than facing the actual fear of the dark.

As we learn more, we see how chaos fits into life, like understanding that night is a natural part of each day. And we can shine our light on darkness both internally and externally. Because at the end of the day, life is messy and beautiful. We are the ones creating heaven or hell in our every day lives.

And there is nothing healthier than being in alignment with the laws of Nature and giving ourselves permission to play with possibilities; looking chaos in the eye with curiosity.

Chaos allows us to trek into the messiness of the unknown and the lessons on the road are simply pieces of our own puzzle of what makes us come alive.
