No Going Back is A State of Mind
What if there is no going back? Apart from learning from our stories and allowing ourselves to be in flow.
When we have conversations, we talk about what’s possible and not replay old stories that keep us trapped.
Some dream of going back to how things used to be. A desire to go back to a time when we believe life was simpler, fuller and safer.
And yet, in Lewis Carroll’s, Alice in Wonderland, Alice realizes, “I can’t go back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.”
Part of letting go is understanding that our experiences allow us to examine our own evolution. There is no need to mourn or stay stuck in what happened because there is not much we can do about it. We can’t change the past. And living it over and over is simply insane.
Staying in regret, guilt or whatever condition that keeps us trapped in the past serves no useful purpose.
We can choose to give up, feel trapped and believe we are helpless. But we are incredibly powerful beings who can also grow, forgive and get excited about what’s ahead.
Flowing
The reality is that we are here right now. There is no going back to who we were or how life was. Nature teaches us that we are always in motion and there is no going back. Flow is a universal law.
“Who are you?” said the Caterpillar. This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, “I—I hardly know, Sir, just at present—at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.”
Every choice we make transforms us. And every shift, no matter how big or small, ushers in opportunity.
What’s your relationship with the natural energy of flow right now?
